At first sight, the developments worked out under the SASMob Project may seem posh entertainment gadgets – but the truth is far from that superficial appearance: as soon as these apps are introduced live, they can they will be a great support for companies using the apps to improve their cost efficiency and for employees to travel in an easier and more environmentally conscious way.

IT Urban, IT Job, IT Trans – for the time being, the smartphone applications experts are currently working on bear these “development-phase names”. Next year, however, they will be available on many Szeged smartphones – just like mailing or the phone user’s favourite daily.

An alternative way for commuting

IT Job” is about workplace mobility and the solutions that support it. IT Job can be used to motivate employees to use public or the bicycle or to walk to get to work or to share their car with a few colleagues. These are the aims of an application package to be used by companies’ mobility managers, whose job will be to make sure their company achieves these “green transportation aims”. For that to happen, though, the mobility manager will have to motivate his/her colleagues. The application package will be provided by the municipal government, which will make contracts with the participating companies – said SASMob IT Manager Gyenizse, Pál as a brief summary of one of the novel development applications.

It also turned out that the three applications mentioned above are a bit like matryoshka dolls: one is contained in the other – the smallest one is IT Job.

The bigger sister: IT Trans

IT Trans is about community transport. It is a platform through which the municipal government can analyse incoming data: passenger numbers are estimated, transfers are monitored – but the app can also identify services with a delay. The most spectacular and most important part of it will be online passenger information. No matter which stop you are at or near to, you will know when the service will arrive – said SASMob’s IT Manager.

IT Urban: Everything about the City

IT Urban is about modelling the city’s transport. As a pilot part of this app, there are cameras installed on the city centre bridge, which are used to analyse traffic flow across the bridge. – The most important thing here is the direction of the flow. The application can tell us which way traffic is heavier. In other words, it does not only count cars, cyclists and pedestrians but can also provide a model of transportation directions – said Gyenizse, Pál.

Besides Urban, the development of the parking application is also very important, which is being developed now. It will not only replace sms-based parking payment but may even be able to “tell” you that you should find another place to park as there no free lots in the area where you are at a given time. In addition, Urban will also contain a “problem reporting” application: one can report a variety of problems, from potholes to falling plaster from house walls.

As an “icing on the cake”, there is an event-based car sharing application: – Let’s say I am driving to a match of the MOL-Pick Szeged handball team and I put on the platform two seats available in my car – says Gyenizse, Pál.

When can these become real applications available to the general public for download?

  • IT Job in the first quarter of 2020,

  • online passenger information in the middle of 2020,

  • the car and problem sharing app some time next year.
